- You will learn native English. In some cases, the English encountered in textbooks is standardized and adapted to people who do not have the status of a fluent speaker of this language, therefore if you want to be original and not always use the same phrases or words from books, steal as often as possible new words and phrases you’ve heard in your favorite movie or TV series. English in movies is much more natural and spontaneous than the one you will hear at English class, so you will enrich your vocabulary.
- You will have a model of correct pronunciation of English words and phrases. During language classes it would be ideal to study English with native teachers, therefore, the films help us perfectly, providing a correct pronunciation model. So, if you want to impress the people around you with a pronunciation like Hollywood actors, watch movies in English as often as you can.
- You will learn words that are used in different contexts. Each language has some idiomatic expressions that those who learn this language only understand in context, so if you want to enrich yourself with a lot of such idiomatic expressions in this language knowing their correct use in context, all you have to do is play your favorite movie and make notes.
It is very important to remember that like any other method of learning English, learning with movies requires some responsibility and extra work. Therefore, it is not enough just to watch the movie and hear these words and phrases, you must as well:
- choose a film with a theme that represents you and with the level of vocabulary that you possess, because in this way you will assimilate more easily and pleasantly;
- use English subtitles, because most of us have a highly developed visual memory, so when the subtitle is present the person memorizes the pronunciation, the context and last but not least the spelling of this word, which also should not be neglected;
- take a notebook where you will write down the phrases that impressed you and that you think will be useful for your future conversations;
- constantly repeat the words and phrases you wrote down in your notebook in authentic situations to transfer the passive vocabulary to the active one;
